REFRAME by Mona Patel

I just finished my second holiday reading book ✅: REFRAME by Motivate Design’s Mona Patel

TL;DR: nice book about innovation, problem solving, obstacles/excuses etc and their 8-step process

There’s nothing really new in this book, but it does a nice job at explaining certain aspects of the innovation lifecycle. I often found myself saying, okay so activity “x” is what you’ve named “y” which is fine (some of the invented words are actually funny e.g. “problonion” for problem onion) 😄

The techniques being shared follow the 8-step-process, which they run in their WIT STUDIO:

1. The real problem/problem brief … or design challenge.

2. A different lens/empathy maps, in addition to the usual Say/Do/Think/Feel there’s also a See/Hear and Why this matters and the biggest problem.

3. Ask “what if” … or ideation in 3 rounds

4. Funnel vision … sharing and rating the ideas

5. Themes … or sensemaking/clustering

6. BS excuse personas … filter excuses for real fear/BS

7. Rapid refine … select/refine ideas

8. Execute … build and test the idea

Overall the book has nice tips and tricks and a bunch of great examples 👍

👎Negative is mainly just on the format: I really hate reading hardcover books, is it just me?
